What happens when the experiences we once considered disappointments become the very things that move us forward?
For emerging three-piece group AIONOSA, that question is at the heart of their upcoming EP, IRIS — Goddess of Desire.
Bringing together Zilla, Jojo and Sagwa, AIONOSA are creating music shaped by real experiences, personal growth and the constantly changing world around them. IRIS is not simply about looking back at difficult moments; it is about understanding them differently and finding something meaningful on the other side.
The project’s central idea is summed up in a phrase that feels particularly relevant to the world we live in: turning disappointments into appointments.
For group leader Zilla, the concept grew from personal reflections following the COVID-19 pandemic. That period brought changes in perspective and a renewed appreciation for life, while also raising questions about how people adapt when everything around them seems to be changing.
Those questions became part of the creative foundation of IRIS.
The EP explores what it means to move through life when technology, culture, relationships and everyday routines are evolving at an incredible pace. In a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming, AIONOSA turn their attention towards something much more timeless: simplicity.
There is beauty in ordinary moments. There is possibility in starting again. And there is something valuable about being able to experience the world with curiosity rather than constantly carrying the weight of everything that has happened before.
That last idea is particularly important to the spirit of IRIS.
AIONOSA view innocence not as weakness, but as a form of strength. Remaining curious, open and willing to discover something new can be difficult after experiencing disappointment, but it can also be what allows people to keep moving forward.
This gives the EP an uplifting quality without pretending that difficult experiences do not exist. Instead, IRIS looks for meaning within them.

Although Zilla’s experiences provide much of the emotional inspiration behind the project, IRIS is ultimately a collective expression of AIONOSA. Each member brings their own perspective to the group’s evolving sound and identity, allowing the project to become more than one person’s story.
There is also an underlying sense of desire running through the project — a desire for change, discovery, connection and a different way of experiencing life.
That is where the title Goddess of Desire becomes particularly intriguing. Rather than limiting desire to one definition, AIONOSA use it as a broader idea: the human instinct to seek something more, to grow, to begin again and to imagine what might come next.
At a time when it can be easy to become consumed by what is happening around us, IRIS offers another perspective.
It encourages listeners to slow down, appreciate what is in front of them and remain open to possibility.
For AIONOSA, transformation does not mean becoming someone completely different. Sometimes it simply means looking at the same life through a new lens.
